1940s porch lights by Lightolier PAIR

1 in stock

I’m very pleased to offer this dazzling pair of 1940s porch sconces by the incomparable Lightolier Company!

Beginning in the 1920s, and for many decades thereafter, the Lightolier Company (extant today of course) made some of the very finest fixtures. Their designs were always simply dazzling, and the quality was the very very very best. When you restore vintage lights such as I do, these aspects are so obvious they tend to jump out. It’s always a particular pleasure restoring a Lightolier!

The shades are particularly impressive: heavy polished glass in a “melon effect”. Gorgeous. When the fixtures are lighted, the shades create distinctive patterns on the wall (much better in person than I could capture on film).

The metal components are all brass. When I purchased the sconces they had been badly over-painted. I removed this, and had to polish the brass. I did not lacquer it, so it will develop a nice patina.

The sconces were expensive when first offered. This reflected the high quality and Lightolier name. This premium still applies.

Wholly restored and with new sockets and wiring, this pair is ready to hang, and comes with all the mounting hardware needed!

DETAILS: Each fixture accepts one standard base 60W bulb.

COLOR: Brass.

SIZE: The fixtures are 10-1/4-inches high, 5-1/4-inches wide, and they project 6-inches. The round back-plates are 4-1/2-inches wide.

  • The only issue is minor. One sconce has a stress crack, side edge, at the very top. It cannot be seen under normal viewing. The sconces are otherwise undamaged.
  • The porcelain sockets and wiring are new.
