1950 rare green chandelier by Porcelier

I’m very pleased to offer this astonishing circa-1950 chandelier by the famous Porcelier Company!

For many decades, Porcelier made some of the finest lighting fixtures and house wares (they closed in 1954). There’s a book on their work:
Collector’s Guide to Porcelier China
By Susan E. Grindberg

Porcelier became famous for the quality of their product, and its aesthetic. Most of what the company produced featured gorgeous floral designs. However, around 1950, the company boldly broadened their line, and the chandelier listed here is a high example of this new, innovative direction.

These “last generation” lighting fixtures are incredibly rare, and, rarer still, to find with their respective components still intact. Thus, you can imagine my considerable glee in finding this chandelier.

The stem and ceiling canopy are, of course, porcelain. Porcelain! And they are green! GREEN! They also feature brilliant gold trim (which might actually be real gold).

It takes my breath away that the original shade is in situ. Previously, I have seen the stem offered but always with a non-original shade.

And the shade on the chandelier is stunning. I love love love its design, which is strongly evocative of its era.

Below the shade is the original brass mounting disk, and the original hand-blown glass finial. The latter looks like a miniature tornado! The finial is also an on/off switch!

Even the chain is original! As are the distinctive porcelain sockets, also by Porcelier!

Today, we think of 1950s styling as being influenced by the Atomic age. But that is the late 1950s. The early 1950s are quite a different aesthetic, and this chandelier typifies the era at its very very very best.

So, if you own an early 1950s home, and are seeking a knock-out, important chandelier, then this spectacular Porcelier may be ideal!

For a long time I’ve had a dream. One day (cue dramatic music) a buyer will contact me. They, too, love love love Porcelier, and wonder if their whole house could be filled with nothing but Porcelier fixtures. I gasp! And reply: Why yes! Please just click here:
