1940s chandelier by Lightolier

I’m very pleased to offer this 1940 chandelier by the fabulous Lightolier Company!

Beginning in the 1920s, and for many decades thereafter, the Lightolier Company (extant today of course) made some of the very finest fixtures. Their designs were always simply dazzling, and the quality was the very very very best. When you restore vintage lights such as I do, these aspects are so obvious they tend to jump out. It’s always a particular pleasure restoring a Lightolier!

When the chandelier was made it would have been about twice the price of comparable fixtures by other lighting companies. This premium was for the quality, design, and the Lightolier name. Kinda like the difference between a Chevy and a Rolls-Royce. This premium still applies today.

The thick glass shade has an Austrian shade-like effect. Striking.

The finial is a huge glass sphere.

The stem is, gloriously, like a fountain in glass.

Save the new sockets, all the parts are original, including the finial, chain, and ceiling canopy.

The fixture is scaled for a bedroom or larger foyer. The shade is 13-inches wide. The height is 21-inches high.

Wholly new sockets and wiring, this fixture is ready to hang, and comes with all the mounting hardware needed!

DETAILS: The fixture accepts three standard base 60W bulbs (not included).
COLOR: The shade is pale beige. Silver. Glass.
SIZE: See above. As well, I can remove up to 3-1/2-inches of chain; I can add chain.

  • There is a small chip the the very upper edge of the shade (see last image). The shade finish has some minute bits of loss and subtle scuffing.
  • The porcelain sockets and wiring are new. The vertical wire is cloth-covered like the original. Nice.
  • The silver on the chains shows some wear.

SHIPPING: Insured shipping in the Continental US will be…FREE!
