Description
I’m very pleased to offer this extraordinary 1930s chrome and glass 6-arm Moderne-style chandelier!
This is one of the most impressive, amazing, and astonishing fixtures I’ve ever offered.
ABOUT MODERNE
Moderne is an aesthetic that developed after the Art Deco period. This aesthetic was relatively short lived, and reached the height of its popularity in the late 1930s. Emerald City, in the movie Wizard of Oz, is Moderne gone Hollywood. Many lighting fixtures labeled Art Deco are more accurately Moderne.
IS THE STYLE RIGHT FOR YOUR DÉCOR?
One would think that for such a fixture to aesthetically fit, a house full of fabulous 1930s-inspired furnishing would be required. But, save the occasional famous Hollywood actress, almost nobody actually lived with such high-style furnishings in the 1930s! No, the overwhelming majority of consumers purchased fixtures like this because they were seen as fresh, and not what your mother had! Mostly, the fixtures would have been hung in traditional-styled homes, and with traditional-style furnishings. Such a light would have added a modern, up-to-the-minute touch.
The fixture abounds with gorgeous detailing, and all chrome-plated. There are also three glass (not plastic) spheres; the bottom one being quite huge. Wow! Between the upper glass spheres is a wide, beveled mirror. Yep, wow. Wow!
The fixture is impressively scaled, too. It’s a whopping 22-inches wide.
It’s also all original. It retains its distinctive spherical finial, and beefy chain. While the wiring is new, the vertical wire is cloth-covered like the original. Nice.
While intended for a living/dining room, today I can envision the fixture in your newly renovated kitchen! Or spa bathroom!
Wholly restored and with new wiring, this fixture is ready to hang, and comes with all the mounting hardware needed!
DETAILS: The fixture accepts standard base 60W bulbs.
COLOR: Chrome. Glass.
SIZE: See above. As well the fixture is 47-inches long. I can remove up to 20-inches of chain. I can add chain.
CONDITION:
- I love writing this: there’s no damage.
- The sockets are original (and in fine shape) with new wiring and paper insulators.
- The candle covers are new, and are off-white cardboard like the originals.
- The chrome looks really really great (see images). The only issue is with the ceiling canopy. This shows its age. There are small bits of loss overall, and the surface texture is sorta rough. This however is difficult to see with the canopy eight or more feet in the air. If you buy the fixture, and are uncomfortable with the canopy, I will be happy to replace it with a new, nickel-plated canopy that will look as good as the rest of the fixture. Just let me know!
SHIPPING: Insured shipping in the Continental US will be…FREE!
