1930s bird ceiling fixture by Markel

1 in stock

I’m very pleased to offer this extraordinary 2-bulb ceiling fixture by Markel!

Markel Electric Products (MEP) was founded by Joseph Markel (1888-1966) in 1920. Markel was born in Lithuania and came to the United States in 1891. The company was located at 145 Seneca Street in Buffalo, New York. A century ago, this was a bustling industrial area. Down the street was the thriving Larkin Company, and their globally famous Administration Building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

The fixture is one of the most remarkable designs created during an age of remarkable fixtures:

  • The fixture has two mirror-like panels behind highly stylized birds. Wow.
  • The finial is incredible. These are almost always lost over time.

The polychrome finish is an antiqued gold with jade accents.

Scale-wise, the fixture is ideal for a small bedroom, hall, foyer, or bath. The fixture is 13×7-inches wide, and 7-inches high.

Wholly restored and with new sockets and wiring, this fixture is ready to hang, and comes with all the mounting hardware needed!

DETAILS: The fixture accepts standard base 60W bulbs (not included).

COLOR: See above.

  • The mirror-like panels look pretty good.
  • The sockets are original (and in fine shape) with new wiring and paper insulators.
